Qualifications:

Doctor of Optometry, University of Waterloo, Canada

Advanced Therapeutic Diploma, Nova Southeastern University, Florida, USA.

Dr. Leah Fraser is a graduate of the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Originally based in Toronto, and now in Eastern Ontario Dr Fraser has provided clinical optometric eye care across in both urban and rural settings and focuses on comprehensive eye health services with a strong emphasis on prevention and early intervention. Dr Fraser’s clinical expertise spans from the delivery of primary eye care examinations, including OCT imaging and chronic disease management, to working closely with families and underserved populations. Throughout her career, she has prioritized access to care, particularly for children and marginalized groups, and has been deeply involved in advocacy for improved pediatric vision screening programs.

In recent years, driven by her desire to impact eye health at a systems level, Dr. Fraser has focussed on applied clinical research in eye care. Her research interests center on childhood vision care access, rural healthcare equity, and evidence-based policy development, with a special focus on improving early eye examinations and intervention programs. Dr. Fraser’s ability to translate clinical knowledge into research is evident through her ongoing projects, such as studying the role of childhood vision health in educational success and participating in clinical trials aimed at refining vision screening methods. Her experience as a public speaker and educator, combined with her advocacy work for national vision screening standards, positions her as a strong advocate for the integration of eye health into broader healthcare and educational frameworks.

Dr. Fraser is also currently studying towards an MSc in Clinical Trials Research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine at the University of London, UK.
